Connetquot Central School District elementary students were visited by their respective fire departments during the month of October in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. A member of the Lakeland Fire Department gave Cherokee Street Elementary School students a high five during a demonstration on how firemen crawl through a fire.

The First Responders explained the importance of fire detectors, discussed the importance of a safety plan, explained their equipment and asked that the students never hide from a fireman.
