With the holiday season approaching, Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and members of the Town Board are partnering with U.S. Marines Toys for Tots to help bring smiles to the faces of children across America’s largest township. The Town of Hempstead’s support of U.S. Marines Toys for Tots includes a collection drive at five town facilities, as well as a special “Cruise-Thru” event and Town Hall’s annual Christmas Tree, Menorah and Kinara Lighting. Today’s announcement was also made by Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Bruce Blakeman, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Councilman Tom Muscarella, Councilman Chris Carini, Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll.
The Town of Hempstead’s Toys for Tots “Cruise-Thru” event will be hosted at Baldwin Park on Saturday, December 11th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donate an unwrapped toy at this drive-thru event, and say hello to Santa Claus and have a chance to drop off letters to the North Pole! In addition, toys can be donated at Hempstead Town Hall’s annual Christmas Tree, Menorah and Kinara event on Tuesday, November 30th at 4 p.m.
For those who cannot make either event, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at collection bins stationed at five locations through December 15th, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except Hempstead Town Hall and Hempstead Town Tax Office are open Monday-Friday only):
- Hempstead Town Hall, 1 Washington Street, Hempstead (Monday-Friday only)
- Hempstead Town Tax Office, 200 North Franklin Street, Hempstead
(Monday-Friday only) - Echo Park Pool, 399 Nassau Blvd., West Hempstead
- Levittown Hall, 201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville
- Baldwin Park, 3232 Grand Avenue, Baldwin
Toys for Tots mission is to collect and distribute new and unwrapped toys as Christmas gifts to those children less fortunate for Nassau & Suffolk County. For the last 74 years, the United States Marine Corps has distributed over 542 million toys to more than 250 million children.
“Working together with the dedicated U.S. Marines and the Toys for Tots program, our goal is to help kids in need have a joyous holiday season,” Clavin said. “Donate an unwrapped toy at one of our collection bins stationed at four locations, or participate in the town’s first ‘Cruise-Thru’ Toys for Tots collection drive at Baldwin Park on December 11th. I wish everyone a happy holiday – Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and a safe and healthy holiday season into the New Year!”
