Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve: Schedule of Events

Caumsett State Historic Park in Lloyd’s Neck, Huntington offers the following interpretative programs in the winter of 2019. These programs are geared for the average adult. There will be a fee of $4.00 per adult $4.00 per child and children under 3 are free. An $8.00 parking fee must be paid during the fee collection season. To register, please call (631) 423 – 1770 between 8:00 – 4:30 pm. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts. Outdoor programs will take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately.

Maple Sugaring: (Adult Program)

Discover the cultural, historical, economic and scientific background from tapping a maple tree to making syrup at home.

Just a Hike – On the Road: (Adult Program)

Sunday February 10 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

There will be no formal nature discussion during this 4-mile, on the road, moderately paced hike, affording walkers the opportunity for uninterrupted relaxing and socializing. Reservations are required: (631) 423 – 1770.

Birding Basics for Beginners: (Adult Program)

Saturday February 23 9:30 – 11:30 am

This hands-on, how to and where to program, will introduce adults to birds and birding. Bring binoculars. Approximately a one-mile walk.

History of Caumsett: (Adult Program)

Sunday March 3 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

On this hilly, moderately long walk (approx. 2 miles), we will study the park’s social, economic, architectural, and political history.

There will be no formal nature discussion during this 5-mile, moderately paced walk, affording walkers the opportunity for uninterrupted relaxing and socializing.

Winter Water Walk: (Adult Program)

Sunday March 17 9:45 am – 1:00 pm

We will observe winter waterfowl while exploring the beach; we’ll also learn about ponds. During our moderately paced 4-mile walk, we’ll relax and socialize. Bring binoculars.

Introduction to Wilderness Survival: (Adult Program)

Saturday March 23 10:45 am – 1:00 pm

In this hands-on program, we’ll teach you how to find food, start a fire and build shelter. Approximately one mile. There will be some sitting on grass.

Nature on The Move (Western Section): (Adult Program)

Sunday March 31 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

We’ll maintain a slow to moderate pace for 4 miles as we observe and discuss the fields and woods of Caumsett.
