Caleb Smith State Park Preserve Schedule Of Events

Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown will offer the following nature programs during spring 2024.  Fees for programs are $4.00 per adult, $4.00 per child and children under 3 are free.  Reservations will be accepted starting two weeks prior to each program and are required. There is an $8 parking fee during fee collection season unless you have a current Empire Pass. All programs are conducted on the North Side of the Park unless otherwise noted.  If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend.  Please be prompt.  If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts. Trail Less Traveled Walk: (Adult Program)
Saturday April 13th  10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Enjoy the spring weather as they embark on the red trail! This trail will take you all the way to the northeastern edge of the park and offers beautiful woodland scenery! This is a moderate level hike with some hills. Bring water and good walking shoes/boots.

Fishing 101: (Children’s Program)
Saturday April 20th 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Join them at scenic Willow Pond for a children’s introduction to catch and release fishing. Discover more about the different types of fishing poles, tackle, and bait, and which is best to use in a fresh water pond. View casting demonstrations and a lesson on the different types of fish that make Willow Pond their home. Then stay for some catch and release fishing! Poles, tackle, and bait will be provided. For children under age 15.

Spring Wildflower Walk: (Adult Program)
Saturday May 11th 10:30am – 12:00 pm
Join a nature educator to explore the grounds of Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in search of early blooming wildflowers. See if you can identify these spring treasures with the help of a field guide. 

Frogs and Friends: (Family Program)
Saturday June 1st 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
From frogs and toads, to newts and salamanders, amphibians are an amazing group of animals! Join them to learn more about these amazing cold blooded creatures as we try to find them in their natural habitat. For children 7-15 years old!

Rainbow Lantern Walk: (Family Program)
Friday June 14th 8:00 ~ 9:30 pm
Head to Caleb Smith State Park Preserve for one of their popular lantern walks with a Pride Month twist! Have you ever wanted to explore the park after dark? Now is your chance, and the ambiance will be enhanced with rainbow lanterns!
