Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown will offer the following nature programs during fall 2018. Fees for programs are $4.00 per adult, $4.00 per child. Reservations will be accepted starting two weeks prior to each program and may be made by calling the park office at (631) 265-1054. An $8.00 parking fee per car will be charged on weekends until the end of November. All programs conducted on the North Side of the Park unless otherwise noted. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts.

Tiny Tots: “Let’s Discover Nature” Hour – Ages 3 – 5

The “Let’s Discover Nature” Hour is a special time for both parent and child to discover the wonders of their natural world together. Magnetic Attractions: Children’s Program

Spider Hunt: Family Program

Enjoy indoor activities, which will be followed by an outdoor hunt for spiders in their own habitats. We will capture, observe and release these fascinating creatures.
The Trail Less Traveled: Adult Program

Enjoy the fall air with a walk on the Red Trail. Wear good walking shoes and bring water if you like. Moderate hike including some hills.

Eye on The Sky: Family Program

Color Splash: Children’s Program

Why do some animals wear bright colors? How does this help some animals and how does it hinder others. We will make a color splash of our own to take home.
Fire-n-Ice Holiday Candles: Family Program

Using hot wax and cold ice you will create a unique candle for yourself or a friend just in time for the holidays. There is a $2 per person fee for materials. Limit 18 people per time segment.
Holiday Wreath: Adult Program

Using a wide array of fresh greenery, create a lovely wreath for your door. Limited to 18 people per time segment. There will be a $5 charge for a wreath frame unless you bring one from home.
Water Color Wonders: Family Program

We will show you step-by-step how to create a beautiful water color collage with a winter theme. For children ages 7 and up, lots of tracing and cutting.
Last Walk of the Year: Family Program
Sunday, December 30, 10:00 – 11:30 am
We will take it slow, enjoying the scenery through the wetlands and forests of the preserve. We will take the time to discuss what we find along the way.
