Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown will offer the following nature programs during Winter 2023. Fees for programs are $4.00 per adult, $4.00 per child and children under 3 are free. Reservations will be accepted starting two weeks prior to each program and may be made by calling the park office at (631) 265 – 1054. There is an $8 parking fee during fee collection season unless you have a current Empire Pass. All programs are conducted on the North Side of the Park unless otherwise noted. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts.
Deer Detectives: (Family Program)
Saturday February 4th 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Where have all the deer gone? Expand your deer knowledge indoors as we explore the ways of the white-tailed deer. Outdoors we will become deer detectives and search for the clues that the deer have left behind.

Tracks & Traces: (Children’s Program)
Saturday February 18th 10:30am – 12:00 pm
What made that footprint? Who’s burrow could this be? What was this animal eating? Children will become nature detectives as they unravel the clues left behind by the park’s wildlife. Create a tracks & traces book filled with your favorite local animal tracks!

Scrap the Winter Blues: (Family Program)

Make a keepsake to give as a gift or keep for yourself. We will show you how to make a nature inspired scrapbook. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring pictures and anything other special items to add to your pages.

Winter Scavenger Hunt: (Family Program)
Saturday March 18th 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
This fun-filled winter family program will keep you entertained while you search the trails for some of the natural and silly things on our scavenger hunt list. Please dress for the weather.
