Members of the Bellport High School Student Council Executive Committee recently traveled to Washington, D.C., for a three-day National Student Council Leadership Conference.
At the conference, the students networked with other student council groups from around the country and from Central America, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. They took part in discussions on school culture and climate, led small group discussions on community service activities, and participated in workshops for social-emotional learning and student activism.
Students also enjoyed a tour of the National Mall to see the Washington monument, the White House, and the Lincoln, World War II and Korean War memorials.
“Our kids proved themselves to be true leaders, and some of the ideas they shared will be implemented in other schools around the U.S.,” said adviser Ellen Hoffman. “We hope to network with some schools in other regions to connect with them and continue to share ideas.”
