The Bayport-Blue Point School District art and music department is pleased to announce that several high school thespians were recently recognized for their talents. They received Teeny Awards during the Islip Town Arts Council’s annual 2022 Teeny Awards at East Islip High School.
In February 2021, the high school’s cast and crew of “Newsies, the Musical” told the story, based on the popular 1992 musical film and 2012 Broadway adaptation, inspired by the historical newsboys strike of 1899 in New York City. There was so much student interest in the play, that several of the roles were split among the four performances.
The cast of “Newsies, the Musical” was selected to perform the ensemble “Seize the Day.” Additionally, the following students received Teeny Awards:
Katherine LaFountain – Town of Islip Teeny Awards Scholarship
Gabriel Ross – Best Male Actor in a Musical
Charley Armstrong and Kai Logan – Lighting Execution Recognition
Jean Cestaro and Christina Lin – Sound Execution Recognition
Cali Kanne – Advertising Poster Design Recognition
Taylor Space – Playbill Cover Design Recognition
Emily Denton – Director’s Choice Teeny Award
“These students truly reflect the flourishing talent of the high school’s music and art department,” said district Chairperson for Art and Music Paul Weber.
