Ahead of the winter break, Academy Street Elementary School students in the Bayport-Blue Point School District got in the holiday spirit with a special reading of “Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg.
Academy Street Elementary first graders watched the 68-year-old model train display in awe.
Principal Lorie Beard read “Polar Express” aloud to multiple first grade classes before they dispersed to various festive, themed stations. Students first sipped on hot cocoa and sweet treats before writing letters to Santa Claus or coloring holiday-themed coloring pages. Then, students watched in awe as a 68-year-old model train chugged around its track, bringing the Polar Express they’d just read about to life.
