Edna Louise Spear Elementary School fourth graders recently participated in a clay workshop with visiting artist Cliff Mendelson. The students learned about Native American pottery making and created their own works of art under his tutelage.
Mendelson, a clinician who specializes in historical pottery-building techniques, shared the fundamentals of hand building by sharing some pieces he created and what they were used for. The students, along with art teachers Skylar Benatar and Meghan McCarthy, got right to work creating their Native American-inspired pieces, using a variety of tools to imprint their works of art.
