A Restaurant Thanksgiving Dinner With No Prices On The Menu

The inflation rate has been burdensome on many Long Islanders, especially lower-income individuals, and families. Harmony Café and Cohost Toast Coffeehouse Restaurant relieves pressure during the holidays with a free meal. Its 4th Annual Toast-giving Thanksgiving Dinner and is set for Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Dinner will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Toast Coffeehouse, 46 E. Main Street in Patchogue. Reservations began on Oct. 16 and are still taking place. Call 631-730-8775 to reserve a spot. In addition, John Sparling and Anthony Pravata of the OM-EN DUET is performing live musical entertainment.

This community event is unlike any other Thanksgiving event because it is hosted at a restaurant with no prices on the menu. Long Islander’s that need a helping hand can dine for free. The Toast Coffeehouse is again teaming up with Harmony Café to make this dinner possible. Together in 2021, they have served over 300 holiday meals during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“We want to give people a dinner they will remember sharing with family and friends as a joyful holiday experience and without the stressor of worrying if they can afford the restaurant meal,” Rosemarie Mccarthy, Harmony Café founder, said.

Toast Coffeehouse uses its volunteer restaurant staff, alongside Harmony Café’s volunteers to serve the community with a traditional thanksgiving dinner with all the trimming and desserts.

“The situation this year has been complicated by the rate of inflation, which is at a 40-year high,” Mccarthy said. “The lower your income, the larger proportion of it is spent on essentials. Those essential have risen at an alarming rate. For example, electricity has gone up more than half, and food costs are 14 percent higher than last year. We want to help avoid a situation where a family must choose between eating a holiday meal or paying their utility bill.”

Harmony Café is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Businesses and individuals who wish to donate to this unique event can choose from various sponsorship packages ranging from $25 to $500. See the non-profit website at www.harmonycafeli.org for sponsorship forms and details.

Toast Coffeehouse was established in 2002. It has three locations across the Long Island area—Port Jefferson Station, Patchogue, and Bay Shore. In addition, the company provides catering services and regular breakfast and brunch offerings. Reservations are preferred and can be made through the www.toastcoffeehouse.com website.
