On Saturday, May 3rd, Legislator Leslie Kennedy attended the 94th Installation of Officers by the Hauppauge Fire District. The event, which was hosted at Smithtown Landing by the Board of Fire Commissioners, was attended by not only members of the Hauppauge Fire Department but featured high ranking firefighters and commissioners from across Suffolk County.

The purpose of the event was multifaceted, featuring the swearing-in ceremonies for the Hauppauge Fire Department’s Chief’s Office, Line Officers, Department Staff Officers, and Ladies Auxiliary. Furthermore, a plethora of firefighters were honored for dedication and long-lasting service to the Hauppauge Fire Department. Those who were honored include Ex-Captain Greg Gottlieb and Ex-Captain Robert L. Wind for reaching 50 years of service, and Ex-Commissioner, Ex-Captain Scott D. Munro for his 26 years of service and leadership for the department.

The Hauppauge Fire Department has a long and detailed history dating back to its humble beginning in 1931. Since then, they have evolved into a multi-station fire district, with its headquarters located on Route 111, and substations on Ledgewood Drive serving the Smithtown Pines and on Terry Road serving the south-eastern portion of Hauppauge. Legislator Kennedy always makes an effort to attend the various fire department installation dinners across the twelfth legislative district, and she looks forward to attending the Hauppauge Fire Department’s future installation dinners.

The Hauppauge Fire Department is an integral part to the safety and security of Suffolk County’s Twelfth Legislative District. The Office of Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy would like to extend gratitude towards the Hauppauge Fire Department, and all those who volunteer their time to make the department the best it can be.
