Pink Aid Long Island celebrated its 10th Anniversary on Thursday, October 26th with the organization’s first ever evening event and a sold-out crowd of over 750 guests at the Paramount in Huntington.
The event, titled “Pink Rocks! A Decade of Compassion,” opened with a professional fashion show, presenting the “Best of Fall 2023” looks from Mitchells in Huntington. Master of Ceremonies Dave Price from NBC and Pink Aid’s annual host and founding sponsor, Chris Mitchell of Mitchells Stores, then kicked off the evening, thanking the numerous sponsors and generous supporters throughout the venue.
Founding Past President Ali Mitchell & 2023 Event Chair Susan Cohen reported on the incredible impact Pink Aid has made in just 10 years, delivering “Compassion Until There’s a Cure” to thousands of patients on Long Island, and now NATIONALLY helping patients in 43 states. Geralyn Lucas, author of “Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy,” was the evening’s guest speaker, providing a moving, yet comedic take on her own battle with breast cancer. A Live & Silent Auction with items donated by area merchants and generous sponsors rounded out the night’s festivities.
The evening’s program concluded with the emotional core of every Pink Aid, the Celebration of Life survivor Fashion Show. This year’s survivor “Rock Stars” included fourteen women and one man, highlighting the fact that 2800 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The crowd cheered as each warrior took to the runway, walking with a special person who had supported them during their cancer journey.
The night wrapped with a special concert by Long Island’s own Mike DelGuidice and his band.
Pink Rocks! at the Paramount was a record-breaking success, raising over $1Million for underserved breast cancer patients in need. Funds raised will provide grant funding for some of the 25 local Long Island breast cancer organizations Pink Aid has supported in its first 10 years, as well as critical resources for Pink Aid’s national Emergency Financial Assistance program. Pink Aid is incredibly grateful to all who contributed to this year’s success.
