Ward Melville Senior Earns Spanish Achievement Awards

Sofia Duran was awarded a Superior Achievement in Spanish recognition as well as the Lucille DiPietro Lambert LILT Student Award for Excellence in World Language Studies by the Long Island Language Teachers, Inc.

Sofia Duran, a senior at Ward Melville High School in the Three Village Central School District, is being recognized for her accomplishments in Spanish by the Long Island Language Teachers, Inc. The organization is made up of language educators in Nassau and Suffolk counties and is committed to providing opportunities for students to develop content knowledge and professional skills.

Duran was awarded the Superior Achievement in Spanish recognition after being nominated by Spanish Honor Society adviser, Mrs. Lorenzo. Additionally, she is one of two recipients of the annual Lucille DiPietro Lambert LILT Student Award for Excellence in World Language Studies. This award is presented to graduating seniors whose teachers can acknowledge fine language achievement. Duran was nominated for this award by her AP Spanish teacher, Mrs. Geoninatti and will receive a $500 scholarship.

Duran is the president of the Spanish Honor Society at Ward Melville High School. She intends to pursue a career as a Spanish language teacher and will be attending the University of Tampa this fall.
