The Long Island Decoy Collectors Association 2023 Annual Show will once again display and offer for sale thousands of antique decoys and other sporting collectibles. This show will celebrate two important milestones. To commemorate the Association’s 50th Anniversary, vintage photos and memorabilia from the organization’s 5 decades will be on display. Another display will celebrate the first-ever decoy contest – which was held in Bellport in 1923.
A Contemporary Decoy Exhibition will provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy works by today’s carvers. In addition to the true “gunning “ and more meticulous “mantelpiece” decoys, carvers will for the first time this year be able to showcase carvings of any Long Island species of bird. Interested carvers should contact Steve Sanford.
Another feature new this year is the opportunity for hunters to display their duckboats in the parking area. The event is free – but owners are asked to pre-register on the website.
The Long Island Wildfowl Heritage Group will provide updates on its local waterfowl research activities, especially their Scaup (Broadbill) studies. LIWHG will also feature a tribute to one of Long Island’s venerable waterfowling families, honoring Malcom Fleming of Bellport.
Admission is $ 7 for adults; children 12 and under get in free. Parking is free.
