The Harborfields High School Music Department recently played host to students from Thomas J. Lahey Elementary School. In a program coordinated by HHS Band Director Allison Scilla and TJL Band Director Courtney Kassinger, the entire third, fourth and fifth grades had an opportunity to travel to the high school to witness many different ensembles in action.
The program opened with elementary students running through the marching band and kickline “tunnel” while the former played the school’s fight song, “Harborfields Will Win.” TJL classes were then seated in the stands so that they could hear and see performances from the vocal ensemble, directed by Clare Jackson; the chamber orchestra, under the baton of Greg Antonelli; and the marching band and kickline, run by Scilla and Jackie Best, respectively. This gathering gave younger students an opportunity to encounter many different groups while giving the high school musicians a chance to highlight their work a mere two weeks before their scheduled performances at Disney World.
More than 160 high school students were involved in this presentation, and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rory Manning, along with Harborfields High School Assistant Principals Allison Joyce and Brian Suckle, were in attendance to show their support.
“One of our favorite things to do each year is to showcase our programs for TJL students and staff,” Scilla said. “The younger students get to see what they have to look forward to in a few years and the high school students love performing for them and their former teachers.”
