West Islip Boy Scout Troop 95 awarded their 60th Eagle Scout rank to Anthony Scarmozzino on August 15, 2023. Anthony’s service project was planning, developing and leading the construction of sensory, activity boards for the children at the West Islip Public Library. Grateful to the kind and inspiring librarians for their positive impact throughout his life, Anthony wanted to give back to the library for enriching his community with creative programs, endless resources and unique opportunities to learn along side children of all abilities. With technology rapidly evolving and post COVID-19 isolation, the library is a welcoming community center where children can socialize which is needed more than ever and Anthony hopes the activity boards will enrich their developing skills and intellectual experiences.
In addition to over 200 hours of community service, Anthony has earned 40 merit badges, 3 Eagle palms and is a proud Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow (Boy Scouts Honors Society). Holding the highest position in the boy lead troop with National Leadership Training Certification (NYLT), Anthony served as Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and previously Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Den Chief-Pack 83. He began Scouting in first grade as a Pack 279 Cub Scout, earning the highest Cub Scout award, the Arrow of Light, before bridging to Boy Scouts. Anthony is a Senior at Chaminade High School, a National Honors Society member, President of the Debate Team and Editor-in-Chief of Chaminade’s newspaper, The Tarmac, in addition to Ambassador of P.S. I Love You Day.
