On Jan. 27, West Babylon Science Olympiad’s three teams competed at the annual Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. Suffolk County’s regional tournament is comprised of 60 teams from throughout the county. The tournament is the largest in New York and the nation. Each team competed in 23 events, from rubber-band powered airplanes to solving crimes in forensics. To qualify for the state competition, schools must finish in the top eight out of 60 teams. The top six schools receive trophies. West Babylon earned medals in 17 of the 23 categories, amounting to 21 medals between the three teams. Team 1 finished in sixth place, earning a place at the state competition.
