Ward Melville Students Awarded By Long Island Language Teachers Association

Several students from Ward Melville High School received awards and honors from the Long Island Language Teachers Association.

Students in Mrs. Geoninatti’s and Mrs. Lorenzo’s upper-level Spanish classes participated in the annual Student World Language Competition sponsored by the LILT association. The students wrote original poems or essays in Spanish on the topic of travel. Three students from Ward Melville won first place in different categories. Senior Michael Melikyan won first place in the original essay competition. Additionally, juniors Claire Sloniewsky and Tyler Matukonis tied for first place with their poems in the written original poetry competition.

Aiden Burgueño was chosen as the Suffolk County recipient of the Lucille DiPietro Lambert Memorial Award for Excellence in World Language Studies. They are pictured with Mrs. Geoninatti and Mrs. Lorenzo.

Ward Melville High School student Aiden Burgueño was chosen as the Suffolk County recipient of the Lucille DiPietro Lambert Memorial Award for Excellence in World Language Studies. Each year, the LILT association selects two students from numerous nominations for this prestigious award. Aiden was nominated by his AP Spanish teacher, Mrs. Geoninatti. Aiden is also the recipient of the Superior Achievement in Spanish Award from the LILT association in which he was nominated by Mrs. Lorenzo.
