Seaford’s newest educators are ready to meet their students when the school year begins. But before the first bell rang, they got a thorough introduction to the school district at new teacher orientation on Aug. 24 and 25.
New teachers gathered in the high school library for introductions, then quickly boarded a yellow school bus for a tour of the district. Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Instructional Support Dr. Sheena Jacob led the tour, which included stops at Seaford’s other three schools, as well as notable landmarks in the community.
The teachers learned about Seaford’s mission and values from Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora, its educational program from Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Assessment Amanda Barney, the role of the business office from Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Richard Cunningham and technology resources from Executive Director for Instructional Technology and STEAM Debbie Langone. The second day featured an informational session with United Teachers of Seaford, followed by breakout sessions for teachers with their respective building administrators.
This year’s new teachers include a pair of Seaford High School graduates, Jessica Wilson, left, from the Class of 2012, and Shannon Digney, Class of 2014.
This year, there are 22 new teachers across the district, including elementary classroom teachers, secondary teachers in multiple subject areas, a districtwide psychologist and permanent substitutes.
“We hired innovative educators who will provide optimal learning experiences for our students,” Dr. Pecora said. “It is with great pride that I welcome the newest Vikings!”
