Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board yesterday authorized the investment of an additional $6.2 million into Hicksville revitalization projects planned to commence in 2025. Under the plan, GGG Construction and The Landtek Group were retained to beautify the downtown, expand open space and improve both walkability and connectivity.
“A renaissance is coming to the Hicksville community thanks to public and private investments in the community. Together, we’re enhancing and transforming the Hicksville business district into a vibrant downtown that millennials, families and empty-nesters desire – with housing, restaurants and office space near public transportation,” said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
The $6.2 million invested yesterday by the Town Board complements the $8.7 million awarded to the Town of Oyster Bay through the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative. These funds are earmarked for:
-Festival Plaza: construction of a raised walking path with landscaping, seating areas, and safer pedestrian connection to LIRR station
-Kennedy Park Expansion: transforming an existing parking lot into greenspace for outdoor activities like concerts and pop-up vendors
-The Underline: expansion of the area under the train trestle between Newbridge Rd. and Broadway for pop-up shops and outdoor cafes.
–Beautification Upgrades: new lighting, trees, benches, trash cans, crosswalks throughout the area.
In 2020, the first privately funded project in downtown Hicksville’s renaissance was unveiled at 35 Broadway, a vacant office building that was transformed into 18 new housing opportunities and a commercial space. In November 2023, officials broke ground with Alpine Development for a $111 million privately funded project at 99 Newbridge Rd., featuring 227 residential opportunities with retail and restaurant space. Five additional projects from the private sector will break ground in 2025 and 2026, including:
- Fieldstone at N. Broadway, featuring 104 new residential opportunities along with retail and restaurant space.
- West Cherry Townhouses, featuring 13 new residential opportunities.
- West Cherry Street Development, featuring 20 new residential opportunities.
- Chroma Paint, featuring 30 residential opportunities along with a rooftop restaurant.
- Bank of America Building, featuring 106 residential opportunities with retail by Bartone Properties.
