Town Honors Syosset H.S. Graduate Named Presidential Scholar

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and his colleagues on the Town Board recently honored Ethan Chew, of Syosset, for his incredible achievement of being named a Presidential Scholar. Presidential Scholars are selected by the White House Commission annually based on their academic performance, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership. Ethan was among 161 scholars chosen nationwide, and the only student from Long Island, to receive what is considered one of the nation’s highest honors for high school seniors.

“Ethan’s dedication to reaching above and beyond in academics, community service, and more, earning him the well-deserved title of Presidential Scholar, is truly inspiring,” said Supervisor Saladino. “With an already extensive legacy of accomplishments and college on the horizon, this young man embodies the New York spirit of ‘Excelsior’ as he continues his path ‘ever upward.’”

This fall, Ethan plans to study ethics, politics and economics, as well as molecular, cellular and developmental biology, at Yale University. He is also interested in pursuing law, or medicine, or both, after graduating from Yale.
