Supervisor Ed Wehrheim, Councilman Tom Lohmann and Town Clerk Vinny Puleo stopped by Flynn Memorial park to help the Smithtown Patriots kick off the opening day game for the season. On Tuesday May 3rd, at 10am, the Smithtown senior softball team; the Patriots, played the Brookhaven Silver Streaks at Flynn Memorial Park. Supervisor Wehrheim wished the team and their opponents from Brookhaven the best of luck, and a memorable opening day.
“The Smithtown Patriots might be just for us Seniors, but don’t let that fool you. These guys are some of the most fierce athletes I’ve seen play the game… I love coming to opening day and hearing from the home and away teams just how much they love playing at Flynn. It gives me a great sense of pride to witness both our little leagues and our senior leagues enjoy the game on a brand new field. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t compliment Councilman Lohmann on a job well done throwing out the opening pitch. I sense a draft pick in his near future!” – Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
The opening pitch was thrown by Councilman Tom Lohmann, who has toyed with the notion of joining the team. The Smithtown Patriots Senior Softball Team is sponsored by the Smithtown Senior Citizens’ Department.
