The Town Of Hempstead Welcomes All Residents To Partake In Thanksgiving Food Drive

Supervisor Don Clavin and members of the Hempstead Town Board are proud to announce an initiative with “For the Love of Pete’s Pantry,” based in Seaford, to assist families in need this holiday season. This November, collection bins will be stationed at various locations throughout the township allowing residents the opportunity to provide local families with a memorable Thanksgiving. The Town partnered with For the Love of Pete’s Pantry in 2020, and the donations helped families in need across America’s largest township.

The announcement was made by Supervisor Don Clavin alongside Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Bruce Blakeman, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Councilman Chris Carini, Councilman Thomas Muscarella, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll.

“It breaks my heart that there are people who are not able to celebrate Thanksgiving because of a lack of food,” Supervisor Don Clavin stated. “Every person should be able to enjoy this day and I’m extremely thankful for organizations like ‘For the Love of Pete’s Pantry’ for their continued efforts in making this possible for hundreds of families.”

Food collection bins will be stationed at 8 locations throughout the Town of Hempstead including 6 parks that are open to the public. The bins will be stationed through November 19th at the following locations during normal operating hours:

  • Hempstead Town Hall (1 Washington Street, Hempstead)
  • Hempstead Town Tax Office (200 North Franklin Street, Hempstead)
  • Baldwin Park (3232 Grand Avenue, Baldwin, NY)
  • Echo Park (399 Nassau Boulevard, West Hempstead)
  • Uniondale Park (710 Uniondale Avenue, Uniondale, NY)
  • Oceanside Park (Oceanside Park, 3800 Mahlon Brower Drive, Oceanside)
  • Seamans Neck Park (2700 S Seamans Neck Road, Seaford)
  • Veterans Memorial Park (1700 Prospect Avenue, East Meadow)

Examples of non-perishable food items to be collected:

  • Boxed Stuffing Mix
  • Instant Mashed Potatoes
  • Boxed Pasta/ Macaroni
  • Canned Cranberry Sauce
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Boxed Rice
  • Canned Yams/ Pumpkin
  • Canned Green Beans
  • Boxed Cornbread Mix
  • Bottled Water
  • Canned Cream Corn/ Cream of Mushroom
