Students throughout the Connetquot Central School District are using technology to complete assignments on the libraries’ new 3D printers. At Cherokee Elementary School, library media specialist Karen Deaner taught fourth and fifth graders how to sign on and use the program Tinkercad to design and create snowflakes.

From left, Cherokee Street Elementary School students Brianna Gershowitz and Anabel Fernandez worked on Tinkercad to create a 3D snowflake.

Using the program, the students learned program features, including how to rotate, delete, build on top of each other, raise and lower their designs. They then designed one arm of a snowflake, turned it, duplicated it and finally rotated it 60 degrees to acquire a perfect snowflake. Each design was then printed on the 3D printer.
