Shining Science Stars At Copiague Middle School

Copiague Middle School recently held its annual science fair. With 40 projects showcased, judges included representatives from the Copiague Chamber of Commerce, Northrup Grumman, SUNY Farmingdale’s STEP Program, Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and Copiague Middle School teachers and Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School seniors.

First place was awarded to Irie Waterbury for her project “Clams vs. Oysters: Which Cleans Better?” The two second-place winners were Katelyn Ng Agtuca for “How Strong Are Different Glues?” and Carissa Spencer for her project “The Bacteria Express: Which Commonly Touched Items Have the Most Bacteria?”

Four Copiague Middle School students took home the third-place honors. They were: Stephanie Rekas for “Which Straw Will Take the Win?”; Alexandra Kaleka for “Cookie Craze”; Nicolle Perez Acevedo for her project “Which Disinfectants Work the Best?” and Victoria Abayev for “Which Brand of Tennis Ball Bounces Better on Different Surfaces?”
