More than 70 carpentry students from Sachem High School East and Sachem High School North were provided exclusive access to tour the new Station Yards construction project at the Ronkonkoma Hub site on Nov. 14. The Hub is a redevelopment project to create a new downtown area with residential and commercial spaces near the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

Sachem Students Connect Classroom To Careers In Construction

Students toured all phases of the project and connected this real-world experience to what they have learned in Sachem’s career training programs.

The visit was hosted by the TRITEC Real Estate Development Company, which provided students in attendance with T-shirts. Project managers gave students tours of all aspects of the project including new apartments, retail and dining spaces, outdoor common areas and parking facilities. Additionally, students were accompanied by Sachem teachers Mr. Byrne, Mr. Cifuni and Mr. Gustavsen who taught them about the various phases of construction taking place. Students got a firsthand look at these stages, along with several career pathways, which helped them connect the information they have learned through Sachem’s career training programs.

Students were engaged throughout the visit and are excited to see the completed project. This unique experience helped them connect classroom lessons to the real-world and promoted careers in construction among the younger generation.
