Sachem High School East is proud to announce the Class of 2024 valedictorian, Adrian Dayao and salutatorian, Michael Mauro.

Valedictorian Adrian Dayao is a bright student who spends his free time immersing himself in his learning. He is enrolled in several Advanced Placement courses including the rigorous AP Computer Science A. Additionally, Dayao has taken a three-period computer repair course to gain a practical skill and develop a deeper understanding of the topic he plans to study in college. His academic excellence led to his designation as a National Merit Semifinalist. Dayao is also involved in the music program at Sachem High School East. He plays first chair viola with Select Strings, a club that plays at the chamber orchestra level, and enjoys composing his own viola pieces.

Outside of the classroom, Dayao is involved in the Sachem East chess club. He was captain and co-president of the team during his junior year. Aligned with his interest in programming, Dayao is a member of the Sachem robotics team as a pit programmer, fixing programming issues with the robot during competitions. During his own time, Dayao creates his own programs. Most recently, he remade a closed-source word game solver in Python and contributes to Open Sources projects by helping fix bugs.

Salutatorian Michael Mauro is a well-rounded student and an active member of the Sachem East school community. His academic accomplishments have earned him an AP Scholar with Distinction designation, an AP Capstone Diploma and a National Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation. Mauro serves as the president of DECA as well as several honor societies including National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Math Honor Society. Impressively, he is an esteemed delegate for Model United National and is well-known to his peers as he has been the class president all four years at High School East.

Mauro is an Eagle Scout and has dedicated time to serve the local Sachem community. Last summer, he served as an intern in Suffolk County Legislator Anthony Piccirillo’s office and learned the inner workings of government. Additionally, he is the alternative captain of the Sachem varsity ice hockey team.

Sachem High School East congratulates both Dayao and Mauro for achieving the top academic honors of their class and wishes them the best in their future endeavors.
