Recycled Art In Honor Of Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, students at Beach Street Middle School in the West Islip School District collaborated and created an ocean sunrise mural out of recycled bottlecaps. It took several months for the students to collect more than 2,000 bottlecaps, which were then cleaned and sorted into colors. An underpainting was created based on the colors collected. During their art classes, the students hot glued the bottle caps onto a canvas and a masterpiece was created. The students made something beautiful out of potential trash and saved more than 2,000 bottlecaps from the landfill.
