Nesconset-based non-profit, Paws of War, recently received rescued 15 puppies from southern states including Texas, Georgia and Kentucky, that are now available to be adopted and placed with veterans, first responders and frontline workers at no cost. The organization will be hosting a puppy adoption event at their headquarters on Tuesday, November 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday Nov. 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (127 Smithtown Blvd. Nesconset, NY 11767)

“These dogs have been rescued from harsh conditions and are now ready to serve the heroes of our community. All of the puppies have already gone through extensive medical checks, receiving veterinary care and vaccinations. It is our mission to protect and give back to our veterans, first responders and frontline workers,” said Robert Misseri, Co-Founder of Paws of War.

The 15 dogs available for adoption include Poodles, Chihuahuas and DaNoodles (Great Dane and Poodle). With proper training, these companion dogs may qualify to become service animals. A full list of dogs available for adoption can be found on their website, https://pawsofwar.org/availableanimals.

“These companion and service animals are essential in providing care and comfort to veterans, first responders and frontline workers. The relief, comfort and joy these animals provide to our heroes are immeasurable,” said Misseri.

In addition, Paws of War also has a program that will train dog handlers and their animals at its facility. There are four levels of training that can take over a year to complete, and ultimately lead to a service dog completion.
