Third graders in Mrs. Brush’s class at Oquenock Elementary School in the West Islip School District are showing off their gardening skills this year. A few months ago, the students planted seeds in the school’s greenhouse. The students learned how to care for the plants, making sure they received enough water and sunshine. They also learned what it’s like to grow your own foods and were happy to see their hard work tending to the plants paid off. In early May, each student took home their plants, which included tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and corn.
