Mrs. Brush’s third grade class at Oquenock Elementary School in the West Islip Union Free School District is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a variety of literacy-based activities. Students created a pot of gold and wrote about what was more precious than gold – their families. The class also learned how to create word art using all different words that correlate with the month of March. Their “green poems” featured all things related to the color green: how it makes them feel, how green smells, tastes and what it sounds like. Lastly, the students transformed themselves into silly leprechauns with orange beards as part of an art activity.
