In honor of Women’s History Month, Northport High School business teachers developed curriculum to educate students about the lack of diversity and issues faced by women in corporate America. Lessons were included in business courses including college management, advertising, travel and tourism, introduction to business and sports marketing.
Students learned about topics including the gender wage gap, percentage of female leaders in the C-suite, funding female entrepreneurs, rate of student loan debt and brands that have pledged to make a change internally and honor women externally with advertisements and public service announcements.
As a culmination activity, students created colored “HerSHEy” bars to hand out in the commons to students who answered trivia questions correctly. The bars were decorated with a quote from Sheryl Sandberg “In the future, there will not be female leaders. There will just be leaders.” by Sheryl Sandberg. The “HerSHEy” bars were also distributed to female school leaders and administrative assistants.
