Tuesday is generally not a popular day of the week to get married – this year, however, it was the go-“two” date. Town Clerk Kate Murray presided over 22 weddings on Tuesday, 2-22-22, helping to provide memories that are sure to last a lifetime!
“A couple’s wedding day is always a special day of the year, but these 22 couples who are getting married on Tuesday, 2-22-2022 will certainly have an especially memorable experience on this once-in-a-lifetime date,” said Town Clerk Murray. “The Town of Hempstead is proud to play a small part in the lives of these 22 loving couples as they take their vows, and I wish them much health and happiness in the future.”
The nuptials took place in the historic courtroom at Old Town Hall, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The room was decorated with balloons shaped in the number 2, and couples were given cookies shaped in the number 2, helping add to the festive and fun atmosphere of the day.
“As Supervisor, Kate Murray led the way on so many amazing town programs and services that became a model for future initiatives, and she has carried that incredible leadership to the Town Clerk’s Office,” added Supervisor Don Clavin. “I am proud to join with Kate as we celebrate a fun wedding date that is surely easy to remember!”
“TWOsday” is just the latest style of wedding event in a long line of innovative ways that Murray and the Town Clerk’s Office have implemented to continue serving the public during these unprecedented times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as Town Hall was closed to the public, Murray quickly adapted her office duties to an online format. She married hundreds of couples via FaceTime, Zoom, over the phone and conducted socially distanced, in-person ceremonies. The Town Clerk also presided over outdoor “destination weddings” at Point Lookout Beach, Lido Beach Passive Nature Preserve and other town facilities.
Concluded Murray, “Congratulations to all of our 2-22-2022 couples and best wishes for a bright and loving future!”
