Kindergartners at Meadowbrook Elementary School in East Meadow took part in numerous activities during the school’s Mother Goose Olympics on Oct. 25.
Nursery rhymes provide a foundation for language to support kindergartners in several literary concepts such as rhyming and alliteration. Equally important is how they have the ability to get children excited about learning. For the past several weeks, students have worked together to develop dramatic interpretations of select nursery rhymes to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
The Mother Goose Olympics is Meadowbrook’s culminating activity for their first ELA unit. Students had fun running races and playing games that were based on some of their favorite nursery rhymes. The mixture of nursery rhymes and play provided the perfect atmosphere for kindergarten students to celebrate their accomplishments while making memories with friends.
