March 11 was a historic day for Smithtown Central School District athletics.
More than 30 girls from High School East and West joined together for the first tryout of the new high school flag football team.
“Being part of history is so special. Being the first to do something is a great feeling,” said head coach, Mike Agostino.
The girls wasted no time, going through certain plays and running routes. The most popular theme of the day was having the opportunity to make history together.
“We did surveys, drummed up interest and we’re excited to watch them compete and give them an opportunity to try a new sport that maybe they haven’t had as much experience with in the past,” said SCSD Athletic Director Jason Lambert.
The Bulls first home game is March 20 at High School West.
