Legislators Susan A. Berland (D-Dix Hills) and Tom Cilmi (R-Bay Shore) presented a proclamation to Rolissa Nash who is the founder of Doggie “U” K9 Academy in Bay Shore. Doggie “U” K9 Academy is the only black-owned dog training facility of its level in the country and an important diverse business in the community. Rolissa has been fighting her whole life for equality, both in and out of the show ring and has overcome tremendous loss, health obstacles and repeated discrimination in her field to get to where she is today. Since it’s opening in 2004, Doggie “U” K9 Academy has been a community hub to all those who attend.
“Rolissa’s resilience and ongoing dedication to her ‘dog family’ and to her community during these challenging times is truly worthy of recognition,” said Legislator Susan A. Berland. “Doggie “U” is a place many call home and we are so proud of all the great work Rolissa does. We are so fortunate to have Rolissa’s expertise and her Doggie “U” K9 Academy here in Suffolk County.”
Legislator Tom Cilmi said, “It is particularly wonderful to watch someone take her passion and turn it into a thriving business. Despite a variety of challenges over the years, Rolissa Nash has led Doggie “U” K9 Academy to great success, training countless dogs of all shapes and sizes to simply be better pets and companions, or to compete in dog shows at the national level. At the same time, she has provided life-changing opportunities for personal growth and enrichment to both clients and team members. She is the definition of a model small business owner and an inspiration to us all.”
“I would like to thank Legislator Susan A. Berland and Legislator Tom Cilmi for granting such an honor to Doggie “U” through me,” said Rolissa Nash. “With the help of these wonderful elected officials, Doggie “U” will step into the future, supporting our dog families and our community”
