Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) recently honored Priya Persaud, RN, a nurse at Catholic Health Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, as his 2023 Healthcare Hero.
A nurse for the past seven years, Ms. Persaud has worked as an Operating Room Nurse for the majority of her career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was floated to the medical ICU to work alongside her fellow nurses and other medical professionals to provide critical care for the surge of patients at the time. Legislator Donnelly presented Ms. Persaud with a County Proclamation at his district office in Huntington Station on July 13.
“Day after day, Ms. Persaud works tirelessly and goes above and beyond to ensure her patients receive the best possible care, making her a true hero,” said Legislator Donnelly. “It was a privilege to recognize her for her positive impact and her service to the community.”
Ms. Persaud resides in Deer Park with her husband and two sons.
In a resolution passed in 2021 by the Suffolk County Legislature, the month of June is designated as “Healthcare Heroes Month” in Suffolk County to acknowledge and honor healthcare workers who inspire the entire community with their exceptional service and selfless contributions. Each Legislator selects one person as their healthcare hero and their names and accomplishments are read into the record. This year’s recipients were announced at the June 21 General Meeting in Riverhead.
