Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park), recently attended annual “Brentwood Day” at the Suffolk County Legislature where students from the four middle schools in the Brentwood Union Free School District participated in a program designed to teach them about local government.

Held in the Rose Y. Caracappa Legislative Auditorium of the Suffolk County Legislature in Hauppauge on February 15, program gave students from Brentwood East, North, South and West Middle Schools’ Youth in Government clubs insight into the inner workings of the Suffolk County Legislature. Legislator Donnelly, whose district covers parts of the Brentwood School District, joined fellow colleagues who also represent the area in welcoming the students. The day featured both information and “mock” legislative sessions where each student took on the role of an actual legislator or county official.

“It is always great to welcome students from Brentwood’s Middle Schools and help show them what the Legislature is all about,” said Legislator Donnelly. “It’s imperative our young people learn about local government now, so they are prepared to be our future leaders of tomorrow!”
