During her service, she also had the opportunity to serve as aboard the USS Wasp (LHD-1) as an Operation Specialist 3rd Class, earn her ESWS (Enlisted Service Warfare Specialist) as an E-3. After her active service, Gobin continued in the Naval Reserves for 4 years as an OS2, or Operation Specialist Second Class Petty Officer.
Gobin earned the Armed Forces Service Medal, Navy “E” Ribbon, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. As her service in the Navy concluded, she continues to serve her community and other veterans through her work at the Suffolk County Veteran Service Agency in Hauppauge as a Veteran Service Officer.
“Gobin’s achievements during her time in the military are exceptional and she is a valued member of the Central Islip community and Suffolk County as a whole,” said Legislator Gonzalez. “It gives me great pride to honor and recognize Melinda Gobin for this year’s Women Veterans Appreciation Day.”
