Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) got “wild about reading” at Sunquam Elementary School in Melville for “Mystery Reader Day.” The event on Friday, March 17 was held in conjunction with the annual state-wide Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) program.

After arriving for the event, Legislator Donnelly, other local elected officials and community leaders were escorted to their “assigned” classrooms, decorated in jungle theme, where the students were eagerly waiting. Legislator Donnelly was the guest reader for the third graders in Mrs. McGuckian’s class. After a discussion with the students about his job, Legislator Donnelly read “Reach for the Moon, Little Lion” which was then followed by a lively exchange about the book.

“It was wonderful to be back at Sunquam for the first in-person Mystery Reader event in three years,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I was impressed by how enthusiastic and engaged the students were and applaud everyone who helped make it an exciting and educational day for all.”
