Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is encouraging local youths between the ages of 13 and 18 to register for the 2023-24 Distinguished Youth Award (DYA) Program.

Through the DYA program, County youths embark on and/or continue their personal growth journeys through a variety of programs that give them chances to become more actively involved in their communities. Upon completion of the program, youths are recognized in a special ceremony and receive medals, Proclamations and other honors.

Established by Legislative Resolution 419-2017, the innovative program focuses on Volunteer Service, Personal Development, Exploration and Physical Fitness. Students commit to completing requirements in two, three or all four categories for Bronze, Silver or Gold recognition. Each category can require up to 100 or more hours of activity that must be logged and certified. Interested youths can find the application, and more information by visiting www.scnylegislature.us/896/Distinguished-Youth-Award or contacting Legislator Donnelly’s office at (631) 854-4433.

“The DYA program provides our young people with an excellent opportunity to truly be involved in the community,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I encourage all local youths to participate.”
