Elwood-John H. Glenn High School students in Matt McGuire’s production systems class built a new office conference table for the school as an extra project. Principal Carisa Burzynski was delighted with the results.
“Mrs. Burzynski had asked me earlier in the year about the possibility of fixing her old worn and stained table,” McGuire said. “It was not real wood, so there was no easy way to fix it. Instead, we made a new custom table that will last longer and be repairable if needed.”
The students first measured the old table, then researched designs to determine the look of the table legs. After creating plans, they milled and cut the lumber to size before gluing. The students then used the school’s new CNC router to engrave an Elwood Knights design in the top and filled it with colored epoxy.
