The school cafeteria at Idle Hour Elementary School was filled with excitement as students celebrated Parents as Reading Partners Day by playing a game of Zingo. Much like the game Bingo, Student-players placed their game pieces on illustrated squares of covers from their favorite books and screamed “Zingo” if they filled a row.

During PARP at Idle Hour Elementary School, students were asked to read with a partner for an additional period of time each evening.
Sponsored by the PTA, PARP is a program that asks a partner to read with a child for 20 minutes each day. Idle Hour’s older students were encouraged to read 15-20 pages of a chapter book each night during the two-week period. Students logged their reading each day.

During PARP, students also listened to mystery masked readers in their classrooms, read a book with library media specialist Julia DeMaio and participated in spirit day activities.
