HUNTINGTON, NY – Huntington Hospital has appointed Marie Mulligan, PhD, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC as chief nursing officer. In her role, Dr. Mulligan will play a key role in overseeing the ongoing success of all inpatient and outpatient nursing staff at Huntington. She will be accountable for approximately 1,100 employees who achieved Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for nursing excellence.
“Huntington Hospital has an outstanding level of nursing excellence and services, and we are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Mulligan’s caliber join our executive staff,” said Nick Fitterman, MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital. “We are confident she will step into the CNO role and contribute immensely in our continued journey to excellence.”
Prior to coming to Huntington, Dr. Mulligan served as vice president for nursing services and chief nursing officer at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson and served in other executive leadership roles within the hospital for the past 29 years. Under her leadership, Mather obtained three ANCC Magnet designations and achieved the first national accredited nurse resident program in New York State, the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award and Beacon Gold Award for critical care. Before serving at Mather, Dr. Mulligan worked at Winthrop Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center.

A Dix Hills resident for over 30 years, Dr. Mulligan received an associate degree in nursing from Kingsborough Community College, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and a PhD in Nursing from Adelphi University.
