The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on public health and the local economy in communities across America’s largest township. This Thanksgiving will be like no other, and for many families who are struggling financially, it could be difficult to put a traditional meal on the table. Supervisor Don Clavin, members of the Hempstead Town Board and CSEA Local 880 are partnering with “For the Love of Pete’s Pantry” to collect non-perishable food items to help local families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The announcement was made today by Supervisor Clavin, along with Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Bruce Blakeman, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Councilman Tom Muscarella, Councilman Chris Carini, Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver Jeanine Driscoll, along with CSEA President Theresa Kohutka, Vice President Mike Errico and representatives from For the Love of Pete’s Pantry. From November 16th through November 20th, there will be food collection bins stationed at nine Town of Hempstead facilities.
“With Thanksgiving approaching during a pandemic, more and more families are struggling to make ends meet,” Clavin said. “I’m thankful for the work of the many organizations who are on the front lines to provide neighbors with assistance during this difficult period, and appreciate the partnership with my Town Board colleagues and the CSEA Local 880 who are helping us support this local pantry’s holiday food drive.”
