On Monday mornings, John Pearl Elementary School fifth graders in the Connetquot Central School District kick off the week with an exciting news show. Each week, two or three students are selected to highlight special events such as upcoming PTA events and important school information or updates.

At the end of each show, students present the segments “Guess Who?” or “Teacher Talk.” During “Teacher Talk,” student-reporters interview a teacher in the building. During “Guess Who?” segment, students select one faculty member then obtain three clues about them and a photo for viewers to “guess who.”

“This is one of my favorite projects to work on with the students each week,” said computer teaching assistant Cheryl Towle. “I love teaching them how to gather information for our stories, organize it all and then create the script while using the technology that our district has provided to us. These are special memories that we hope will last a lifetime for our students.”
