Giving Week Challenges Raise Funds for Autism Communities

Giving Week proved a great success for Autism Communities (Deer Park, NY, www.autismcommunities.org), a private, 501(c) (3) organization, whose mission is to provide housing solutions for adults with autism in independent, safe, and inclusive living environment. The organization which placed its first residents in their new home this past fall, strives to provide housing solutions where individuals with autism can enjoy fulfilling lives, supported by a person-centered culture of care for their lifetime. In recognition of Giving Week, Autism Communities’ Board Members and Advisory Committee Members held fundraising challenges which range from a Winter Swim in the Great South Bay and 10,000-meter Concept 2 Rowing challenges to Running/Biking, Social Media Post and Whipped Cream Covered Face challenges. In total, the organizations raised over $58,000 in support of its vital mission.

About Autism Communities

Autism Communities was founded in 2015 by Charles Massimo, a parent of one daughter and two sons, both with autism. With a goal to give his sons every opportunity to live a life filled with positive relationships and activities, he set out to on a mission to develop communities where adults with autism could live and thrive in a person-centered community where they would be safe, monitored and with their individual needs would be supported in areas such as healthy lifestyles, social and recreational activities, employment and volunteering opportunities. He joined forces with other concerned parents and Long Islanders and together they are working to develop communities across Long Island located in close proximity to vibrant downtown areas offering a full array of resources and opportunities.
