Girl Scouts Of Suffolk County Unveil “Imagination Station”

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) unveiled its new “Imagination Station” van, a specially equipped mobile learning center designed to bring science, technology, creativity, and other hands-on educational experiences directly to Girl Scouts and students throughout Suffolk County.

The colorful van, wrapped in Girl Scout green and rainbow colors, is designed to transform into a mobile classroom, science lab, or creative learning space, allowing GSSC to deliver a wide variety of educational programs in communities across the county.

The Imagination Station features a television, speaker system, generator, air conditioning, and built-in cabinetry stocked with educational materials, including microscopes and other learning tools. A retractable canopy provides an outdoor learning area where girls can participate in experiments, activities, and group projects.

“The Imagination Station is about bringing new opportunities directly to girls, wherever they live,” said Tammy Severino, President and CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “We want girls to have the chance to explore their interests, discover new talents and develop the confidence to try things they may never have experienced before. By taking our programs on the road, we can reach more girls and introduce them to experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.”

The van’s name was selected through a contest among local Girl Scouts, with two girls independently submitting the winning entry: Junior Girl Scout Lia Moore of Troop 100 in East Islip and Junior Girl Scout Gianna Figuccio of Troop 3145 in East Northport.

“When I found out that I won, I was super excited and proud of myself and very surprised,” said Lia Moore. “I chose the name because I thought that this van would be a place where young girls like me could use their imagination and be creative.”

“I was just thinking, and ‘imagination’ made sense, because in Girl Scouts I use my imagination a lot and it’s a station kinda, so I came up with ‘Imagination Station,” said Gianna Figuccio, Troop 3145, East Northport.

In addition to visiting Girl Scout troops and events, GSSC plans to bring the Imagination Station to local school districts, offering STEM activities and other educational programming to introduce more girls to hands-on learning opportunities.

The mobile learning center is part of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County’s ongoing efforts to expand access to educational experiences that help girls build confidence, develop leadership skills and explore new possibilities for their futures.
