To promote literacy during the summer months and to piggyback off the West Babylon Public Library’s summer program, Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District allows its students to borrow books from the school’s library. Librarian Andrea Francisco calls its “Francisco’s Free Library,” where students can sign out books for the summer months so they can be sure to keep up their literacy skills. During the school year, students took a field trip to the public library with Ms. Francisco, where each student was able to get their own library card. The public library offers incentives and prizes as a part of its summer reading program.
