Ms. Pomponio’s eighth grade family and consumer science classes At P.J. Gelinas Junior High School participated in a “food truck challenge.” Students were tasked with designing their own food trucks from scratch. They started by choosing a theme and type of food, then formulated a business plan. After conducting research about local competitors, students chose the location of their food truck, came up with a menu with pricing and descriptions, created an advertising flyer and finally designed their vehicle.
Once the projects were completed, they were displayed in the P.J. Gelinas Junior High School library. Students and staff could stop by to vote on the truck with the best design, the best menu and the most cohesive business plan. Students were passionate about the friendly competition and learned about entrepreneurship along the way.
